GIS Specialist

Job Summary

[Company] has an exciting opportunity for a GIS Specialist to support environmental projects, which will require professionals with proven experience in GIS in our [Company] Mexico City office. The successful candidate will support the Environmental and engineering areas by elaborating GIS files using the ARC suite, helping acquire GIS data from public or private sources, analyzing data, applying filters, creating maps, drawings and reports to support environmental and engineering projects for several purposes. This individual will be collaborating with a multidisciplinary team composed by biologists, civil and environmental engineers, architects, social relationships, and others to create value deliverables with the highest standards to clients.
  • Fully qualified scientist. Utilizes scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
  • Requires general familiarity within a broad field of scientific knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields.
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.
  • Solves problems by use of combinations of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
  • Participates in planning required to achieve prescribed objectives.
  • Conducts analysis and investigation work obtained from a variety of sources.
  • Performs inspections and tests to ensure compliance.
  • Participates in developing corrective measures and procedures. Formulates hypothesis, performs research and makes recommendation.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree on geography, biology or environmental engineering.
  • Must have 5 to 10 years of experience in geographic information systems for environmental projects, environmental consulting, and mapping environmental baseline data
  • Must have proven expertise with key functions including: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data acquisition, interpretation & analysis, as well as, the development of plans, drawings and reports.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS suite, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Power Point, Access, and Outlook required
  • Expert knowledge with cartography for official reports and presentations, environmental law and regulation (SEMARNAT), environmental impact assessment, mining and renewable energy projects
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills are required
  • Strong skills in written and spoken communication
  • Organizational skills
  • Flexibility to work, a positive attitude, a willingness to learn

Preferred Qualifications
  • Full understanding of GIS reasoning, analysis and output preparation
  • Proficiency in the use of ARC suite tools, full understanding of GIS processes.
  • General understanding of topography, geology, flora & fauna, water resources and other relevant layers for data acquiring, processing and analysis functions.
  • Ability to work independently and drive multiple simultaneous procurement processes
  • Strong Analytical and Problem Solving skills
