The Solution Analyst proactively works with both client and business owners, representatives and users to understand and translate business requirements into information technology solutions. The Solution Analyst keeps abreast of technology advances and is responsible for making the business aware of any business opportunities or constraints due to technology developments.

The Solution Analyst’s responsibilities include: understanding the client and business scope, determining possible solutions and communicating recommendations. A Solution Analyst develops and reviews software requirements, creates user stories together with the business and ensures the ability of the implemented application to satisfy the requirements. Periodically solution analysts will be requested to lead the implementation of solutions, assuming ownership responsibility for the delivery of [Company]’s technology initiatives, including scope, business planning, design planning and project execution. That responsibility includes management of budget, schedule, resourcing, and ongoing reporting for the applicable initiative or project.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage business partners, gather/review business requirements and project proposals to translate them into functional designs and solution suggestions
  • Design and implement systems solutions: Provide expert advice to management and stakeholders, recommend a course of action for required systems solutions in the following areas: solution scoping, requirements analysis, gap analysis, feasibility, functional design, architecture, application configuration and development, integration testing, user acceptance testing, production deployment, support and training
  • Evaluate the design, quality, stability and maintainability of solutions including standard and custom processes/solutions to meet organizational needs
  • Prepare documentation (user stories, procedures, processes, user manuals and test cases) according to standards and need
  • Respond to client and business priorities and projects and negotiate scope, budget and timing for fixes and enhancements with the business and the development teams
  • Manage existing [Company] application platform, including implementation of application upgrades and development, to acceptable quality standards while managing business risk
  • Actively engage with all interested stakeholders and representative user groups in determining solution strategy and requirements, communicating where necessary to ensure appropriate resources are available from the business, reviewing progress, demonstrating interim work results, conducting user testing and releasing to production
  • Work together with the client or business representatives to package up and prioritize work for investigations, maintenance sprints, incremental/agile development sprints and projects and in translating functional needs into user stories or development specifications
  • Working in a team environment, work with the agile teams to ensure the user stories are executed, tested, reviewed with the business and all progress is reported, pitching in with any skills needed to get the team’s backlog across the finish line, including negotiating timelines, resourcing or backlog items, testing, grooming the backlog of features in priority, etc
  • Engage with the client and business to implement effective change management and training practices when implementing solutions
  • Facilitate collection user feedback and work with the business to facilitate escalation of end user issues
  • Pro-actively manage technical problem resolution, involving vendors and other [Company] Digital members as appropriate
  • Together with the business owners, create, manage and further effective vendor relationships at all organizational levels
  • Support the production environment, assisting administrators and support teams in their roles to ensure acceptable system performance and up-time, adhering to [Company]’s change management strategy
  • Ensure provision of adequate and current technical documentation related to the solutions and their administration
  • Implement usage, performance and total-cost-of-ownership metrics and develop strategies to address as appropriate
  • Collaborate on all matters pertaining to infrastructure / architecture requirements, including networks, databases, storage, software licensing, technology recovery plans
  • Ability to draw conclusions including impacts and resolution options, define strategies and suggest solutions
  • Discernment to differentiate which issues are critical to overall organization drivers and which are not
  • Ability to solve complex functional/process issues which cross organizational boundaries; ability to liaise and negotiate
  • Ability to negotiate solutions with an incremental approach and with business benefit at each increment
  • Ability to operate within the software development lifecycle using agile processes, and engaging team members and partners through the various activities in this cycle. This will include negotiations, briefings and developing, reviewing and discussing Epic Visions, User Stories, Functional and Technical Designs and Test Scripts/Scenarios.
  • Stay abreast of changes in technologies and tools as well as market and technology developments.
  • Excellent organization, multi-tasking and prioritization skills, ability to determine priorities, make decisions under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Effective management skills including time and task management, development of project plans and status reports
  • Results-oriented, self starter, capable of working independently and within a team environment in order to meet deadlines, default pro-active, “get-it-done” approach


Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training or work experience
  • 10+ years in information management delivering business or engineering solutions
  • 5+ years in the capacity of business analyst and/or project manager
  • Working knowledge and experience in the following technologies an asset:
    • MS Azure
    • Azure DevOps formally Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS)
    • Augmented and Virtual Reality Technologies
    • Business Intelligence
    • MS SharePoint online
  • High motivation and commitment to quality and customer service
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with different levels of stakeholders from different parts of the world
  • Must be a self-starter and organized and needs minimal supervision
  • Understanding of all aspects of software development and implementation
  • Ability to work in an agile environment
  • Willing to work outside of normal business hours as part of a global team and to travel as required
